About

Reconciliation as a Path to Resilience

Esteemed Delegates, Honorable Chairs, and most Distinguished Guests,

My name is Selin Sohn, a current junior at Dwight School Seoul, and the Secretary-General of SKYMUN XII. First and foremost, I’d like to extend my heartfelt welcome to you all to the twelfth iteration of SKYMUN, hosted jointly by Seoul Foreign School, Korean International School, and for the first time, Dwight School Seoul.

The rapid globalization and development of industries and sectors has led to the use of diversity as a weapon rather than a tool. Global issues are becoming ever more rampant and present in our society, and in the face of such, we should aim to be resilient. Resilience does not mean to remain unchanged, but rather, to remain ever-adapting and unwavering in the pursuit of sustainability, growth, and in this instance, diplomacy.

This is the sentiment behind this year’s theme, “Reconciliation as a path to resilience”. Reconciliation is more than coming together, but also rather resolving differences and overcoming them to embark on a transformative journey that builds tight bridges between individuals, communities, and nations. This year’s theme hopes to see delegates engage in fruitful debate and discussion, overcome international boundaries, and craft innovative resolutions for the most pressing issues of the world.

As the Secretary-General, I hope that SKYMUN XII will be a conference where delegates convene together to come up with innovative solutions to our world’s issues, just like the previous iterations of SKYMUN has done before. SKYMUN is a place for all delegates and student officers, and we encourage all delegates to approach this year’s theme with an open mind, a spirit of empathy, and a commitment to the good of humanity.

On behalf of the secretariat team, we look forward to seeing everybody in April, and witnessing the impact contributions each and every single one of you will make. Until then, stay safe and warm!

Warm Regards,

Selin Sohn,

Secretary-General
